Tang Central School is situated on the north- eastern outskirts of Bumthang Dzongkhag. It is located at Mesithang, a distance of 17km from Bumthang- Mongar highway above Mebar- Tsho and 27km away from Chamkhar town.

Tang Central School was established in 1965 as a Primary School with 18 students under the headship of Mr Namgay Rigzin. Since then twelve head teachers have been changed. Then it was up – graded to Lower Secondary School from the beginning of 2007 academic session followed by 2012, to Middle Secondary School. This school provides education to the children of Tang Gewog in particular. However, students from other Gewog also study in this school.

Tang School, being the only boarding Middle Secondary School in Tang and Choekhor gewog, students completing class VI from Khangrab, Jigmeling, Dhur, Kharsa, Chokhortoe and Zangtherpo schools are admitted in this school.Today the school is practicing vigorous teaching programme and co-curricular practices which are in accord with the curriculum requirement of the education division, Royal Government of Bhutan.

The school appeared Bhutan Certificate of Secondary Examination (BCSE) for the first time in its history, in 2013, with 28 students (including two supplementary candidates), obtaining 96.4%. It is an honour to mention that English and Dzongkha subjects secured 100% pass percentage. The school always aspires to secure 100% pass percentage in all the subjects, throughout its history.
